Keraton Surakarta or full in Javanese called Karaton
Surakarta Hadiningrat is the Palace of Surakarta. The Palace was founded by
Susuhunan Pakubuwono II (Sunan PB II) in 1744 as a replacement for the
Palace/Palace Kartasura ravaged Geger Chinatown due to 1743. The last Palace of
Mataram Kingdom was founded in the village of Sala (Solo), a small port on the
West Bank of Bengawan (River) Concrete/Sala. After the official Palace of
Mataram was completed, the name of the village was changed to Surakarta Hadiningrat.
The Palace is also a witness of the handover of sovereignty by the Mataram
Susuhunan PB II to the VOC in 1749. After the Treaty of Giyanti 1755, this
Palace was then made official for the Palace of Surakarta. The complex of
buildings of the Palace still serve as residences of sunan and his household is
still running a Royal tradition to this day. The Palace is now also one of the
attractions in the city of Solo.
The Keraton (Palace) of
Surakarta is one of the exotic buildings in his day. One of the architects of
this Palace was Pangeran Mangkubumi (later styled Sultan HAMENGKU BUWONO I)
which was also the main architect of the Palace. Therefore it is not surprising
if the archetypal spatial both palaces (Yogyakarta and Surakarta) has a lot of
general equation. Keraton Surakarta, as can be seen now is not constructed
simultaneously in 1744-45, however, was built in stages by maintaining a basic
spatial patterns that remain the same with the first. Construction and
restoration was carried out by massively Susuhunan Pakubuwono X (Sunan PB X)
who ruled from 1893-1939. Most of these palaces are white and blue by
arsitekrur Java-European mixed style.
The
complex includes the Gladhag, Pangurakan, North square, and the great mosque of
Surakarta. Gladhag is now known as the Gladhag crossroad at Jalan Slamet Riyadi
Surakarta, in ancient times used for tying the game captured the Woods. The
square is the home of Royal ceremonies involving the people. In addition the
alunmenjadi place meets the King and his subjects. On the edge of the square
planted a Banyan tree. In the middle of the square there are two Banyan trees
(Ficus benjamina; The family Moraceae) that guardrails are given. Both of these
tree trunks are called K. Sengkeran (harifah: Banyan tree are kept) that are
named Dewodaru and Joyodaru. On the West side of the square stands the mosque
of North Ageng (Mosque) of Surakarta. This mosque is a mosque official kingdoms
and founded by Susuhunan Pakubuwono III (Sunan PB III) in 1750 (Kasunanan
Surakarta Islamic Empires).
